Oh my, I had a brainstorm. And if you know me, you know that takes a lot! LOL.
I wanted a way to display my jewelry better.
I've done a couple of shows and I usually just lay out a pretty colored cloth over a few boxes to give some height, then lay the jewelry pieces over that.
And that worked pretty well, but I wanted something a little nicer.
There are displays that you can buy but they're so generic and I wanted something to set off the originality of my work.
My husband had suggested using a picture frame by removing the glass and using hooks to place the jewelry on. That sounded good, but it needed something more. So I started looking around to see what I could do to kick it up a bit.
I had some thin styrofoam that had been in a box that held our new TV. I'd saved it because I'd thought at the time I might be able to do something with it to show my jewelry - but I'd never quite come up with that great idea.
I took a picture frame, removed the glass and cut the styrofoam to fit the cardboard insert. Then I pulled out some old flour sack dishcloths I had tucked away in my craft basket. (I'd be embarrassed to tell you how many years it's been there!
I ironed that and stretched it across the styrofoam, stapling it to the back of the cardboard insert. Then slipped the whole thing back into the picture
frame. (This works best with the picture frame where the insert is held on with metal brackets rather than the ones where you slide the insert into a groove)
It's perfect! I used straight pins to hold the jewelry in place. It's very easy to slip the pieces on and off if someone wants to look at them more closely or to try them on. And they look fantastic!
As an added plus, I can take a great picture of them on this display.
I'd been unable to get a decent picture of jewelry with my old digital camera and had to get my pictures by scanning. They come out great with scanning but
take a lot of tweaking and time.
But with the picture frame, they came out great with my camera!
I'm very happy with the results.
Maybe you can take a look and let me know what you think.
If you want to see some of my scanned pieces, go to http://www.craftedfromtheheart.com and compare!
Thanks!
